thank you, thank you, thank you, I learned to bookmark!! Wish I had read this weeks ago. Good thing about trial and error is when you see how easy it is to do things correctly it looks easy. I am thinking I CAN DO THIS! Note for later- lissen to the rest of the videos. thanks again. cheryl
Brad this is Awesome - Great Effort put forth into this video. Love the Inter-Active links on the Video and You have Superb Video Editing Skills . This is Top Notch, 5 Stars *****!!! Excellent Resource for the newbies, wish I had this before but better late than never :) BOOKMARKED!
Hi Brad, a beautifully done tutorial. It will help anyone that is new and I have bookmarked it for when I invite someone, I will be sure to share. A very busy week and I didn't set up the call to you about MIXPRO but I will and I thanks you again for the generous offer.
Nicely done I wish we had it a few months ago when we started.
Yea, clap, clap, clap...I've been wanting one of these for new members.
Yeah!
Looks good Brad!
BRAD, I have bookmarked this post so I can forward it to new members when I see them. I don't have time to watch now but it looks like it will be something good for all of us to watch. I know that I am constantly learning new things.
Gonna have to check this out later whan I'm in the office as it will definitely bog down my dialup even worse.
Cant wait to see it, thanks for taking the time to do it.
Great info. I'm fairly new & I can always use new ways to navigate! Thanks so much!

since you obviously were reading my mind when you just 'threw' this little tutorial together can I add to the wish list of "wanta knows" or is half the fun the brain fog of figuring it out on one's own? - cheryl www.ozarkcastle.com
Brad, thanks for the tutorial. I just leaned about how to contact AR. I was trying to figure what was the best way to suggest to have an "opt out" for the spam type adds in the comments we are not getting. Thanks AJ
Man, if my wife wasn't asleep next to me right now, I would definitely be watching the video to see what cool stuff you did now..but I will have to do that later.
So for now I will just say thanks for the cool post that i can send to the newbies!!!
This is a very timely post. I've seen a lot of questions lately from obvious newbies. This is perfect for the newbs.
Brad - maybe AR could email a link to this to every new member as they join?
Brad- Great for newbies! I was left on my own to navigate. I can see how some people would be afraid to do that. Oh, thanks for the quiet side as I am one of those midnight bloggers.
Brad.....this is an informative post for newbies and even a refresher course.
Emailing to my agents that are baby rainers! Awesome job putting this together!
Brad, This is sooo cool! We need to get this on the getting started page. http://activerain.com/action/default/welcome
Brad: What a great newbie post. For quite a long time now, whenever I have found a newbie on line, I have given them a link to one of your older newbie posts to get them going. I will start sharing this with them, too. Thanks for sharing.
Brad, what an amazing job! How great for a new member! Do we have a "welcome wagon" - someone that emails every new member when they sign up? If so a link to this needs to go with the email!
Brad... well done. You're loving ScreenFlow now aren't you? ;)
Hi Brad - great video for everyone! I watched the WHOLE thing watching for those "hidden tools and links"...... wwwaaaahhhhhh, I already knew about those.... ;-)
Any previews of next month's that you mentioned?? ;-)
Ann
BRAD - This is a great start for newbies. I would also suggest that they just go back and read your catalog of posts if they are looking for helpful hints to become all that they can be.
Brad,
Now your like s big push button service on line..just push the right button and it will take them where they need to be...thanks!
I'll tell you although navigating AR in a dense fog through trial and error was fun, I think I can become much more productive now that I have a clue. Thanks once again, as always your tutorials are just what we need.
thank you, thank you, thank you, I learned to bookmark!! Wish I had read this weeks ago. Good thing about trial and error is when you see how easy it is to do things correctly it looks easy. I am thinking I CAN DO THIS! Note for later- lissen to the rest of the videos. thanks again. cheryl
Cheryl - trial and error is a good thing and yes, you CAN DO THIS! Enjoy!! :-))
Justin - thanks alot my friend. You are certainly no newbie here, I have been following your Blog here for quite some time. I loved your Myspace, Facebook, Twitter oh My post. Your Blog looks great!! You'll be seeing me stopping by more, I'm always looking for great new content and writers here for AR members and guests to read.
Hi Brad, a beautifully done tutorial. It will help anyone that is new and I have bookmarked it for when I invite someone, I will be sure to share. A very busy week and I didn't set up the call to you about MIXPRO but I will and I thanks you again for the generous offer.
Hey William - thanks for being so willing to share this post with new members, hopefully it will help make a difference in the community. I even stumbled a couple times doing the video, just goes to show you, we all have a little newbie inside. haha!
Call me anytime regarding Mixpo (Now called AR Video) or for any reason whatsoever, I look forward to your call. Thanks for taking time to comment on this post, I wasn't sure how it would be received. I really do hope it will help new members feel more comfortable getting around in the rain.
Terry - sorry I didn't have this done sooner. Nice thing about new members here on AR is that they are signing up everyday and some weeks by the hundreds. I know it may be too late for us few, but hopefully it will benefit the many in the future. Glad you're up and running and didn't need this post, but please tell a friend or fellow new member if you feel they may benefit. Thanks Terry, have a great weekend.
Missy - clap, clap, clap... I loved that! Thank you, so I guess it's ok then, I'll take a bow? haha! ROFL...
Thanks for the applause, but really not necessary. I have been thinking about these tutorials, seems like forever now, and just haven't had the means to provide them. Thanks to Jon and Bob at AR, I now have the tools and platform to really try and help out the new members with these types of posts.
IMO, my tutorial here has a bit to be desired, but it will get better with practice and time. This is the first one I have ever done using this application with ActiveRain Video. (formerly Mixpo)
I am doing an entire "New Member" series as a part time project in my new roll here. Any ideas from the pro what you'd like to see next? I am planning a "Profile Setup" and then "Creating A Blog Post" is there anything you feel would be useful to new members after those? Thanks Missy. :-)
Mike - thanks, it was great talking to you on the phone yesterday, I see you are doing more video on your posts, keep up the good job, don't get discouraged for any reason, video is a great tool and awesome way to communicate your message regardless of the results you may think you're getting. :-)
BRAD, I have bookmarked this post so I can forward it to new members when I see them. I don't have time to watch now but it looks like it will be something good for all of us to watch. I know that I am constantly learning new things.
Marchel - thanks for sharing this with new members, I hope it will inspire more of them to dive in knowing how to navigate the neighborhood a bit better. There's more to come in this tutorial series for new members.
Gonna have to check this out later whan I'm in the office as it will definitely bog down my dialup even worse. Cant wait to see it, thanks for taking the time to do it.
Diane - Dial up internet access can certainly pose some restrictions with any media, flash, or video. By the same token, there is such a wide variety and range of users with everything from dial-up to High speed Optical access, we just have to try and meet the needs of ALL subscribers and viewers. It's a constant challenge trying to provide tools and posts for ALL levels of internet access.
I hope you'll enjoy this when you do get the chance to view it. It should work ok with dial up, it just may yake a few seconds to load once you click on the play arrow. :-)
Yvette - welcome to AR, I do hope this post will help yo feel a bit more comfortable knowing your way around the community at large. I am working on a couple more that will hopefully be helpful for you and other members. Coming soon to a Blog near you...lol~ Thanks!! :-)
since you obviously were reading my mind when you just 'threw' this little tutorial together can I add to the wish list of "wanta knows" or is half the fun the brain fog of figuring it out on one's own? - cheryl
Cheryl - feel free to add any "wanta knows" you'd like. The next tutorials I am working on are "setting up profiles" and "creating Blog posts" but you are welcome to add anything to the list you'd like to see. There is something to be said for the "Brain Fog" you are referring to, that's how most of us learned everything we know here in the rain.
Looking forward to your ideas and suggestions. Thanks! :-)
Brad... some excellent information here. I just sent this to 3 people, 2 of whom I have invited in the last month or so. thanks
Jeff - that makes this post and video "officially viral!" Thanks! :-)
Thanks! I still have a lot to learn!
Brad as usual this is a great post with lots of wonderful and very useful information that we can use. Thanks!
This will be great to share with my Newbies- thanks.
Amy - you'll learn as you go, but you'll really learn best by just doing! :-)
Patty - thank you very much, I have to say these video tutorials take much longer than a typical post, and because I am still learning different applications and experimenting, they of course take even longer. As long as they are helping ANY member, I am happy to try and provide them. Thanks for viewing it and for taking the time to comment. :-))
Kathleen - I hope this will help any new member feel more comfortable with their navigation in the rain. Thanks for helping get this out to them, that's very sweet of you. :-)
Very good video Brad!!!
Thanks Jeremy - they should get better with time and practice...
Thank you very much! This is great:)
Brad, Thank you so much for all of the information you provided and the assistance you gave me. It is greatly appreciated. I am excited to be a new part of this community.
Kathleen - you're welcome, I really hope it helps. :-)
Christine - thank you, and we are just as excited to have you as part of this community. Let me know if you ever need any assistance here. It was really great talking with you today. Thanks again. :-)
I know this video may be a bit long, but the time it will save you learning all the places to navigate on AR could be days, weeks, or even months. I have met and talked to members who have been on AR for months and didn't know some of these links were even available. Hopefully it will save YOU some time and frustration as well. Thanks for watching and for all your comments.
Brad, great tutorial on how to navigate through the AR site. I did not know that the lower left portion of the site even existed. Great work...
Freddy - took me a couple months to find and figure out all these locations and links and what they do. Hopefully this video will knock off a couple months for anyone who watches it. Thanks, glad it was helpful to you, makes it all worth it. :-)
Thanks, Brad for putting stuff like this on AR. I'm so new to all this and it's overwhelming when you are getting started. I'll take your advice and work through the newbie stuff. I notice that you post a lot of stuff to help people get going - keep it up! It's very much appreciated!
Debbie Fiskum, Perfect Transformations staging in Denver, CO
Debbie - thanks for checking in and for your comment. Just FYI, you should login first before commenting or doing anything on AR. Your comments earn you 25 points when you're logged in. Look forward to seeing you around, don't hesitate to call me if you ever need any assistance here. :-))
This was very informative. I am still somewhat new and have a lot to learn. I guess that I need to keep looking for and learning from posts like these.
What is the best way to find out how to do something without having to go through a lot of info to find it? For example, posting pictures. I've done it a few times but my pictures are usually much larger than I would like. Any instructions out there about how to make my pix smaller so I can add several instead of one gargantuan one?
Rebecca - there are many members who write these types of "how-to" tutorial posts. Use the search tool, or also the link at the bottom of this page that says "Help/FAQ" you will find many of them there. I also have categorized all the posts I have written which you or any member can access from my profile page here on AR. Please feel free to do so anytime.
To post pictures, use the little green tree icon on the toolbar above the comments or new post box. To adjust the size of the photo, either use your mouse or the appearance tab, and set your width and height parameters. Hope that helps. :-)
As usual Brad, top notch information for newbies & old alike.
Thanks!!! I am a newbee and it was very helpful
Lyn - thanks, I have been able to send this to 5 different newbies this week, it has come in very handy.
Debbie - glad you found this post and video to be useful. Welcome to AR, I hope your time and efforts here will be well rewarded. Thanks. :-)
Brad: Great Video for New members but also a great refresher for everyone. Glad to see it featured in the daily email today. All the new features are so cool... love the outside blog feature! Have a blessed day.
Jan - thanks, I just noticed it in the news letter, very cool. I've had a full plate getting the outside blogs launched, but didn't want you to think I didn't appreciate your comment here. I do! Thank you, and you have a blessed day as well.
How did I miss this post? And how do you make an interactive video? Is There always a new tool to discover?
Richad
Richard - welcome to the ActiveRain Firehose of information, posts get easier and easier to miss! lol~
Thank you for the video!!! There is alot to wrap my head around I am sure with all the help here I will be up an running in no time. Thanks again.
Vera - I know the video is a bit long, but this 8 minute video will save you hours weeks, maybe months of trying to learn all the places to navigate on AR. Many of us old timers here had to learn this stuff without the use of posts and tutorial videos. This is just one of the ways we give back to the community for all the things the community has done for us. We call it "Paying it Forward" :-)
Thanks for the reminders so I don't forget and can stay on track!
Maya - not sure this will keep you on track, but it should help you find the track you want to be on with all the different tools and areas available on AR. Thanks for the comment. :-)
Thanks, Brad.
This really helped me understand the tabs....can't wait to get all set up to BLOG!!!
Sally - here if you need me. One tip: Make sure you login before you do anything on AR, you're missing out on points and your signature (name) on comments will have no link. Just an FYI.... :-)
Okay, so I finally got around to reading this, now that I have been on AR for about two weeks. Great info.
Brad-
Awesome tutorial video- thank you for the direction in getting things rolling!
Good basic info for how to get started with Active Rain.
Troy - welcome and I'm glad you found this. It may still shave off some time on the AR learning curve. :-)
JB - :-)
Jeff and Sharon - very basic but frustrating when you don't know it. Nothing worse than getting lost in the "rain".
Thank you Thank you! I wished I had watched this earlier. I feel like a light bulb suddenly went on.
Thank you for this tutorial, now I at least know where to start. I felt a little over whelmed when I open up ActiveRain for the first time. This presentation was really well done and informing.
Thank you!
Sarah - you are so welcome, I'm glad you had the chance to watch this, sometimes we walk around in the dark trying to find our way, then the light goes on and has a way of "Making Our Day!" Thanks. :-)
Luke - your comment makes all the time and effort that went into creating this all worth it. Thank you. :-)
Brad,
As a newcomer this is very helpful and I am bookmarking the page to use as a reference! Thanks
Scott - Once you watch it a couple times, you'll no longer need it. You'll get to the point where you feel comfortable with where everything is on ActiveRain and how to use the network effectively. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, I really do appreciate it very much. :-)
Great Tutorial!! Hopefully it is as easy as it sounds!! I look forward to all the info available!
Lynda
Thank Brad...I'm new to ActiveRain and learning the basics. The video got me off to a great jump start.
Lynda - you'll find more stuff like this on my profile here on AR. Thanks. :-)
Karen - that's exactly what it was intended for. Thanks and Welcome to ActiveRain. :-))
Thanks for the video. I am very new and this has been very helpful.
Thanks for this posting, I already book, arked it and will navigate a bit easier no thanks to you!
Carlyn - welcome to the rain. Glad this helped you out, hopefully this will save you hours of trying to find this stuff on your own. I know it took me weeks when I first started to find my way around the network. :-)
Freddy - I had to laugh at your comment...I know what you meant, but read your comment carefully, that's funny what leaving off a "w" can do to a guys ego! ROFL!! haha! :-))
Brad...i can't seem to get the video to play. It's a black screen and when i click nothing happens. Any suggestions as I'd REALLLY like to watch it. thanks for all of your info.
whoops..ignore my previous post...i left and came back and voila no more black screen...so i may be back in business. thanks again.
Celeste - glad it's working for you. I do hope it helps you get around the community a bit faster and easier.
Thanks for the info, and I too have never used the bookmark and now that I know what it is, I will start using it...God Bless...Jason
Jason - this one would be a good one to bookmark. You can also send a link to others that you sign up here, and help to get them comfortable with how to navigate around the place. Kudos, thanks! :-)
well I'm sure there's lots of good info from all the posts. Tried several times to get it to load even left it there for 15 min. Maybe you can email me the video.
Brian - I was going to say it might be your Intenet Explorer browser, but I just watched it on both IE and Firefox, not sure why your computer isn't allowing you to view it. You can go to my Video Console and watch it if you can't get it to work here. My Video Console
Brad - Great information - thanks! I have not watched all the videos but certainly will finish them as time allows. As a visual learner, I'm always happy to find sites such as ActiveRain where you can get video information rather than pages and pages of instructions!
Wow, You surpased yourself again. You are a natural teacher. Thanks for the effort that goes into thes post. They are very helpful.
Bruce and Mary - some like to read, some like to listen, and some like to watch. I endorse and promote using all 3 methods to get your message to your audience. Who knows what they like, so you better do all three. Just my opinion. :-)
Derenda - I am so grateful you appreciate the work that goes into these posts. Everyone here on AR knows how much time and effort we all put into these, so to get a comment like yours, well, let's just say it keeps me pressing on toward the goal. What is the goal? I'll let you know when I find out, and I'll do it in a post! lol~ Thanks. :-)
Great tutorials. Thank you. I'm a newb and following the directions by reading and watching them all. Would you mind telling me what software you used for the magnification, spot light, etc.?
I bookmarked this earlier and haven't had time to review it....This is one I hope to view soon. Thanks for the info!
Kenny - there are a couple applications out there, I think I used Jing for this one.
Allen - always glad to provide helpful info if I can. Thanks. :-)
Thanks again, Brad. I've downloaded Jing and am definitely going to be able to use it for training clips. What did you use for the magnification and cursor spotlight?
Kenny - I went back and checked the video tutorial and for this one I actually used ScreenFlow. All the features and spotlight and zooming tools are included in their package. I think it was around $100.00. Jing is for the PC, but I use a MAC and ScreenFlow does a better job for what I needed.
Thank you! Wish I had seen this when I first signed in!
WOW! The more I investigate this site, the more great stuff I find. Thanks !! Susan
Thank you so much for that tutorial Brad. What an incredible resource.
Samantha - it's part of the getting started post you should have received when you signed up and joined AR. Glad you found it now though, hope it helps.
Susan - you have no idea! There is a ton of info, fun, business, and great people here.
Justin - you're welcome, glad you enjoyed and got some use out of it. :-)
Brian... I am somewhat challenged by technology. I am not able to view the video. Any suggestions. Is there another way for me to look at it?
Kim, Cozy Home Rental, New to Active Rain, cozyhomerental.com
Thank you very much for the video, very helpful. I am somewhat overwhelmed by all that ActiveRain has to offer - wonderful! I am looking forward to getting involved.
Judi, NorthWest Escrow Services Corporation, New to Active Rain
Video Problems, I just checked the link and video and thy seem to be fine. You might want to try again.
Judith - welcome to the network, I hope this little video tutorial gives you a bit better understanding of how to navigate around the AR network and community. Thanks. :-)
Brad this is an awesome tutorial I am directing some people to it that just started on AR. For some reason the volume is really low on this one. Is there any way to make it louder?
Just left above post and just saw the disclaimer--sorry! I could hardley hear it though!
How does the listing router link work and how come it didn't show up on the video? That looked like a different homepage. Is it old?
Dave - listing router just came out a couple weeks ago. This post is about 6 months old, it was not covered. There are Listing Router tutorials on my AR profile if you're interested. :-)
Thank you Brad for an informative and engaging presentation. This newbie is going to work hard to make rain!!
Jan - I hope it "POURS" for you here! Welcome to AR, I think you're gonna love this place.
Thank you Brad: Good information
I joined Activerain about 6 months ago and have been stumbling around the site since! This is great and I will 'Bookmark" it - now I know what bookmarking means! Thank you so much for the tutorial.
Brad,
Thanks for the great tutorial....glad I went through it....didn't know how to bookmark...will save me tons of time!
Lori Cofer, Beasley Realty
Norma - thanks, it's better to give than receive right?? :-))
Janet - thanks for bookmarking this post, you will find hundreds of great members and contributions here, even after another 6 months, you'll still be learning and growing everyday. You have struck a goldmine here, and hopefully pay dirt soon...just stick with it.
Lori - saving time and allowing you to do more valuable and more important things is what I love to do to help our members and my clients.
As my kids like to say, "It's just how I roll!" lol~ Thanks.
Very helpful....I learned how to bookmark after all these months and I was reaquainted to the bottom left sidebar.
Are the buttons across the top on someone else's blog not working or is it just me?
Eric - can you let me know what buttons are not working? This is the first I have heard anyone having any problems so it may just be your browser or computer giving you some problems. Let me know, thanks. :-)
Awesome tutorial for the beginner and intermediate ActiveRain user. Thansk for all the tips!
I have a lot of buttons not working.
Brad: As always.. another great post.. this can be useful to some of us that have been here for a year, two or three.
Marchel - this is only happening in Internet Explorer browsers, the programmers are aware and working to get it corrected asap. Thanks for your patience. :-)
Roland - thanks, I hope it will do some good for the next two or three years, If not, I'll just have to do another. :-)
Brad - thanks. Make sure you login to AR before commenting, that way you'll get the linkback to your profile and you'll also get 25 points for each comment up to 10 per day. Just fyi...
Great info Brad, Thanks
Thanks, good information!
Brad,
Thank you for this great tutorial. Taking the time to watch it proved very helpful to me as I flounder around trying to figure out the best way to make this work well for me. Your time & efforts is greatly appreciated by this "newbie".
I still have an awful lot to learn, but I'm excited. This site is very addictive!!
Vicki~
Thanks Brad! You are so helpful to us all...I am so gratefull!
Great Idea, Thank you for taking the time to go over the basics. :)
Thanks for the introductory video, it was very useful.
Thank You! I appreciate the information.
I am so glad a friend told me about this. I have been trying to learn Active Rain for a while. Now there is hope. However, I don't see the "bookmark" anywhere under any of the blogs I'm looking at. Do I have a setting missing or something?
Meg - It's in between the envelope and the red flag at the bottom of every post. If it's not showing, it may be your browser or something with your settings. There is a post about bookmarking and other ways to manage favorited posts and articles, I hope this will help:
http://activerain.com/blogsview/618114/3-Ways-To-Bookmark-and-Manage-Your-Favorite-Posts
Thanks for the wonderful info. Now I am not a newbie. lol
Katherine - you passed the test. If you could watch this entire video, then you are no longer a newbie. :-))
Thanks for the info. I have been a member of Active Rain for 6 months . Maybe now I will try to be a little more active
Daniel - now is the time (in this market) to be planting those seeds, and then watering and fertilizing for the next big Harvest. Your Blog on AR is a great addition to the success of your garden. Man, I like that one. I Better author it quickly before someone else does. :-)
Hey Brad...thanks for the great video tour. I have been an AR memeber for a while...but have not been as active lately for numerous reasons and therefore have fallen behind on the new tools and features. This tutorial just brought me quickly up to speed..glad I am back :)
Hi Brad...I just watched your video tour. Thank you so much...simple and to the point!
I wish I would have seen this before I fumbled my way around. Vidoe makes it all make more sense now. thanks!
Thanks you guys (ladies) I'm sure some things have changed on the network since I created this video, but for the most part, it should still help some to know what and where to go while singing and dancing in the rain. :-)
Great video, very informative. Thanks for the great tools you have to learn your way around the site.
Great video, very informative. Thanks for the great tools you have to learn your way around the site.
Great video, very informative. Thanks for the great tools you have to learn your way around the site.
Thank you for the tutorial. Great for first time bloggers, it takes you a litle further on the tools we left for later o fear to hit. Excellent introduction.
Thank You for this tutorial! My anxiety is lessened because of this.I will be using this on a daily basis,Iam sure..Thank You for putting this together
Thank you. Excellent video! Very informative and helpful for first timers like me. Just joined today...
Thought this was a great video. I had "used" Active Rain about a year ago but am now committed to really be apart of it.
Great and insightful Video. Thank you. I just joined and I hope I'll be as active as I would like to be.
I guess I am no longer a newbie. I am going through my old bookmarks and deleting the ones, I no longe use. Thanks for great info.
Why has the video been deleted?
Claire - all fixed! :-)
Hi Deena - You can upgrade your ASR account to a "Rainmaker" or wit till you aquire 10,000 pts. That's the only way your photo wil appear in the comments when you leave them on members posts. Let me know if you need any help setting up a rainmaker account.
BTW - Any place on my Blog is a good place for a question. :-))
Thanks, Brad for such a speedy reply! I'm impressed by the level of support.
Thanks, Brad for such a speedy reply! I'm impressed by the level of support.
Deena, thanks for asking about the picture, I wondered same thing and couldn't find the answer.
Brad, thank you for clearing it all up for us newbies! Video is great help/
Great Information for Newbies, big help in understanding the website
Nice job Brad -- thank you very much! This was a great overview and will be helpful in getting me started. It looks like the AR interface has been changed a bit since this was posted though, any chance you'll be updating the video?
Thanks Lisa - this is definitely an outdated post and video, maybe I'll do a new one sometime later this year. In the meantime, if you need any assistance, don't hesitate to contact me anytime. :-)
I joined back several years ago, but have been inactive. So, I'm really a newbie! Very informative video, I wish I had viewed several years ago, it would have answered some of my questions. Yes, it would be great to have an updated video. I'm looking forward to the Zillow class today!
Jean - welcome back. I'm on the road so I'll either be doing the webinar from a parking lot in my car, or in a hotel lobby somewhere here in San Francisco. lol~ Hope you'll enjoy it! :-)
PS - I will do a new video soon......
