How To Set-Up Your Active Rain Profile

Now that you were invited, or found and signed up on Active Rain, here are the "STEP-by-STEP" instructions on how to set-up your Profile. This is the First Step in maximizing the value and benefits of your FREE membership here!

STEP 1 - BEFORE YOU BEGIN:

You'll always want to be sure to "LOGIN" to Active Rain before you do anything. If it's been a while since you've been here, you may have forgotten your password. If so, here's what to do:

1. Click "Login" at the top right of your monitor. If it says LOGOUT, then you are already logged in.

2. If you have forgotten your password or login, just click on the link "Forgot Your Password" and the screen below appears:

3. Enter your user name or email address, then click on "Email Me" and your password will be sent to you.

STEP 2 - SETTING UP or EDITING YOUR PROFILE PAGE:

1. Once logged in, from any screen in Active Rain, begin by clicking on the "MY HOME" link at the top of your screen.

2. On the left side of your screen, you will see the options below available: Select the "EDIT" link next to "My Profile" and you will be directed to your Profile Page.

3. Now you are ready to SETUP / EDIT / MODIFY your Profile page on Active Rain, the following screen appears:

4. Fill out the information as demonstrated below:

Just a couple of tips:

1. Don't try to setup or have multiple profiles on Active Rain. One is all you need.

2. If you want your name and company to appear when you comment on other members posts, add it to your last name field: ( ie: Andersohn - The Escrow Guy )

3. Use the "Description Box" as your One-Liner "VALUE-STATEMENT." In other words, if you were in a room full of your competitors, why would someone choose you as their Industry Professional.

4. Remember: You can always come back and edit, change, and modify any section of your "profile page" including if you move, change companies, or re-locate etc.

STEP 3 - UPLOADING YOUR PHOTO:

1. This is a "very important" part of your Profile. You want your clients and visitors to know it's you!

2. Click on the "Upload Picture" link under the Shadow Face on your profile page.

3. Using the "Browse Box", you can search your computer for your favorite photo of yourself. Once you select your photo for upload, simply click on the "Upload Photo" box. Don't forget to click on "Save Profile" when you are done.

(TIP: Use a picture of YOU. Don't use a "Scenery" or "Graphic" for your photo, your Profile is about YOU! There are many reasons for NOT using other pictures in place of YOUR PHOTO.)

PART ONE OF YOUR PROFILE IS NOW COMPLETED!
FOR THIS YOU SHALL BE AWARDED ACTIVE RAIN POINTS WHICH UNFORTUNATELY CANNOT BE EXCHANGED FOR GIFTS AND PRIZES LATER, BUT THEY WILL HELP YOU MOVE UP THE LIST AS THE "FEATURED PROFESSIONAL" IN YOUR AREA.

Here are just a few samples of what other members have done with their "Profile Pages" on Active Rain:

Karen George Bryant Tutas Sarah Cooper Colleen Kulikowski Kristal Kraft Laurie Manny Lenn Harley Renee Burrows Chris Elizabeth Griffith Craig Schiller Mariana Wagner Candace Robinson Rick & Ines Jeff Dowler Thesa Chambers Ann Cummings Nick M Midori Miller Maureen Henry Jeff Turner

Now you are ready to begin the Second part of setting up your profile page. This is where the fun really begins. You are only limited to your own creativity, and there are many members here including myself, that can even help you with that!

Go to the next post titled: "How To Complete Your Active Rain Profile - Part II" which will cover the "About Us", the "Areas of Expertise", and the "Testimonial" sections of your Profile.

Tina - I use the Print Scr/Sys Rq button on the computer keyboard to capture the screen, then I go into Paint Shop Pro and do my editing.  You can use other programs out there too.  Adobe Photoshop is the best but too complicated and time consuming for me.  You can also use online editors like picnik.com which is free for 90 days, and then some of the options have to be subscribed to.  I use both.  Hope that helps...   :-)
Posted by Brad Andersohn (Zillow - Outreach Manager) about 4 years ago

Posted by Beth Lester Real Estate Staging & ReDesign (Home Staging Designs of California) about 4 years ago
Beth - go to your profile and just add it to your name separated with a dash! -  Beth Lester - Company Name, then save your profile.  Goto My Home, select "edit" next to profile and then save. That should do it. Let me know if you need any help with it!  :-)
Posted by Brad Andersohn (Zillow - Outreach Manager) about 4 years ago
Thank you - I got that much done, but it still says "Edit Delete" right after, which the others don't have!
Posted by Beth Lester Real Estate Staging & ReDesign (Home Staging Designs of California) about 4 years ago
Beth - only you have the option to edit your own comments, and delete comments from your posts.  Other members can't see the same options that you see.  This allows you to delete unwanted or spam comments, and edit your own comments when you catch typos or want to change something within your comment.  There is also a "report as spam" link you can use if needed.  :-)

Question I uploaded the wrong photo to my profile by accident. How do I get rid of it? If I upload the right one will it replace the one I have or simply ad it?

Thanks

Jeff

Posted by Jeff Hughes (Conveyance Realty Group) about 4 years ago

Jeff - just click browse, select a new image or photo, select open, and then save.  As long as the new photo or image isn't too large of file or in the wrong format, it will replace the old photo. Don't forget to save your profile when you're done.  Let me know if you still need help with it. be happy to walk you through it if you need. :-)

Can someone help me with what I might be doing wrong.  When I write a blog, the title of the blog does not show up when I google that title, instead the default title of my blog shows up.  For example, Mark's Blog is what shows up instead of the title of the blog.

Pretty cool site. I have a question though, when I signed up and activated I guess I somehow signed up for the wrong occupation title. How do I change it. I can't seem to find it in the edit profile section. Thanks!!

Posted by Scott almost 4 years ago

Scott - first off, you'll need to be logged into the network to do anything. I see by your comment not being linked that you are not logged in. To change your occupation, just login, click on edit next to your profile link, and make the change. If you are referring to the "type" ie: Real Estate Agent, Lender etc. we'll have to change that for you. Send me an email if you'd like that portion of your profile changed or you can contact AR by clicking on the link at the bottom of every page in the right hand corner. Hope that helps answer your question. :-)

Hi Brad,

I miss Caliornia, I used to live in Vista about 18 years ago, when it wasn't too conjested.  I've also lived in Oregon, Washington, Mississippi, Florida, New York, Michigan and now in Atlantic Canada. In the past 3-4 months I've learned many new internet techniques, especially HTML coding, which I use in my Prudential Website.  But I feel like I haven't learned enough.

My question is; how do I create a move appealing ActiveRain webpage, with each side having more of my information on other blog sites or where I'm connected or even more visually appealing. (ex: your "Golden Gate Bridge" or where I'm currently living "Saint John panorama"??

Could you please direct me in the right direction.  THANKS!!!

Jamey - well since you are on my Blog post, I guess I can be anyone? lol~  You can point to any website you'd like from your profile page. Just go to the edit function on your profile, place in the new url in the website box, then click on the "Save Profile" button or icon. Then view your profile and click on the link to be sure it's working properly.  You may need to refresh your browser so the new link will show instead of the cached one you had previously.  Let me know if that helps if you haven't corrected it already.  :-)

Posted by Brad Andersohn (Zillow - Outreach Manager) almost 4 years ago

That's funny.  I thought by now you would be long gone from this post and too busy to answer.....  LOL  thanks so much for responding.  If you look at my blog on the right hand side it says website and it points to an old KW website.  I have changed it and saved it a million times in my profile and this link still points to my old website, it's right above "tag cloud".  The darn thing will not change?  Any ideas?

I have had a total brain fade. I have a new testimonial I want to add and for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do that. I went to my profile and the existing testimonials, but it doesn't seem to be the right place to do this. What am I missing.

Also...while I have you, one of my posts was featured this week and I got a bunch of points for it. How does that happen? I am very appreciative, of course!

Jamey - first make sure you're logged in, then click on the Add/Remove that is just above the link.  Then click on Edit and change the URL to anything you want.  That's all you need to do. I left you a VM message a few minutes ago, feel free to call or cantact me if you're still having trouble with it. :-)

Carol - Go to your profile link and next to it you'll see the edit link. Click on that and it will take you to your profile edit page. You can add your testimonials there.  Congrats on your Featured post.  It happens when you provide great content on your posts.  The extra points you receive are because it got featured.  :-)

Nancy - not sure what would be causing that, haven't seen that one yet. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer as your browser, you might want to try Mozilla Firefox instead. If you are still having a problem, let me know and I'll see what I can try to figure out for you.  Sometimes it's just your browser settings or there's a popup blocker somewhere in your system that may be causing it. Let me know. :-)

You mentioned that the "username" would determine where your profile appears or something like that. What does that mean? I looked at others' usernames and could not recognize a pattern of any kind. Is this alphabetical? Please give me an example of how a particular username would make a difference in placement.

Posted by Anonymous over 3 years ago

You can add your company name to your user name or your tagline if you want to get recognized with it attached to your name. It has no bearing on where your profile will appear, but it will show up on every signature you leave on every comment of every post....as long as you're logged in when you comment.  I put a sample in the post above for you. :-)

She's a darling cat, by the way). Anyway, I'll keep pouring thru the posts. I tried to add you (associate) but didn't have any luck. How does one sign up for someone's posts?  It would be cool if there was some order to getting started.  I went thru most of the profiles that you highlighted as examples. They were awesome.  Thanks for all that you do ;0

Marian - there is a getting started link that may help you. It's on the main page of AR in the "More Information" box.  Check it out.  Welcome to AR, you'll love it here and the rewards and results from your efforts will be unbelievable. :-)

BTW - Cleo loved your comment and says Thanks...well, I think that's what the meow meant when I held her up close to the screen. lol~

Hi Brad.

The tutorial made setting up my profile very easy.  I just noticed that I am still listed as a "loan officer", when I have in fact transitioned to a real estate agent.  I don't see any way to make the change.

Any suggestions?

I just joined ActiveRain.  When I registered I entered that I was a Realtor.  As I pressed the send button, for some reason I see that it put me as a financial planner (in so many ways, that is funny)  Anyway, how in the heck do I change that.  I have looked everywhere.  Tried to contact ActiveRain, by phone(always busy) and by support email.  Nothing. I don't want to do anything else until I can get this fixed.

Anyone out there with suggestions?

Hi Brad,

I decided to spend Easter weekend doing something fun and productive - had a golf lesson yesterday - very productive - want to be a scratch golfer this year, but I digress -  more importantly in order to be able to fund the golf - have been spending hours reading up on the Active Rain site and learning about bloggging.

As I stumble and tumble my way around the site - I came to realize that when I go to find where I am and who else is in the site (read - 'ahead of me') under Real Estate Profile - I am listed as Real Estate Sales Representative and would prefer to be under the category Real Estate Agent - I have spent 3-4 hours now looking for blogs on how to change it.  While I have learned about so many other things that I didn't even know that I didn't know (a true unconscious incompetent) so it wasn't a waste of time - there doesn't appear to be anything in My Profile to do this.  Can you help please?  Your posts are awesome - thanks so much for 'paying it forward'!

Janine - it's not really HD, you just need a photo that is at least 600 x 600 or larger, then you can crop it down to the required 600x600 if need be. If the photo is too small, it won't upload.  Try a bigger picture and I bet it will work for you. Also make sure you are running the most current browser, which ever one you are using. let me know...   :-)

Ran Right - edit your profile and be sure to upload a photo. Once it's saved in your profile it should post with your comments automatically.

The input and directions are appreciated. Many thanks!

Hi!  I am trying to upload my photo to Activerain, but the button to browse and find a photo is hidden by the Primary Market information.  Any suggestions?

Thanks - Michele

Hi Michele - sounds like it might be an Internet browser issue, I'm having Kerrie follow up with you to see if we can't get this resolved for you right away. Thanks. :-)

Okay, Brad, I have completed my profile, loaded up a pic and saved my profile.  When I post comments to other blogs my photo DOES NOT appear like everyone else--WHY??? Did I miss something simple?

Posted by LISA ORME, Broker/REALTOR®, ABR, CRS, GRI, PSCS, SFR, Notary Public, (The Master's Key Realty LLC -Windsor, CT - HARTFORD COUNTY) almost 2 years ago

OK, I just found my own answer up above--it's about the point system I guess. Thanks!

Lisa - you shoul;d upgrade to a rainmaker account, then your photo will show along with even greater benefits of the membership. When you hit 10,000 points your photo will show up in comments but your blog posts won't show up in the search engines for consumers. If you have any questions about the rainmaker membership, feel free to contact me anytime at all. :-)

I have been trying to upload my photo and keep getting the following response:

Bad Gateway

The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.

Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) mod_ssl/2.2.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 Server at activerain.com Port 80

What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
Posted by Mary Turnbull (Edina Realty) almost 2 years ago

Hi Mary - sounds like the photo may be too large and the AR network is timing out.  If the photo is too large, Activerain waits a few seconds then gives you that response. Try resizing the image to be smaller, then try again. If you need help with it, just email the photo to me and I'll see what I can do to help you. Thanks.  :-)

Brad, I too am having trouble uploading my photo into my new profile.  This is the error message I receive:

1 error prohibited this agent from being saved

There were problems with the following fields:

  • Avatar photo is not quite large enough. It should be at least 600x600 pixels in size

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me on this.

Posted by Michelle DeClerck (Curvey Real Estate, Inc.) almost 2 years ago

Michelle - the image does have to be 600x600 pixels, anything smaller will get an error. Either resize your picture or find a larger one that you can crop once you upload it, this will solve the error problem. Let me know if that helps or not. :-)

Awesome info, wish I had it when I first started but still great info to review. Looking forward to the rest of the blogs about how to update my profile.

First off, thanks to everyone for their valuable input and information.  I just upgraded from a basic member to a paying one.  I have a quick question on the blogs that I published as a non-paying member.  Is there a "simple" way to edit them in bulk so that they'll be open to the public instead of just to members?  If I have to edit them one at a time, I will, but....  :(

Thanks...

It's probably very simple, but how come my profile picture doesn't show up when I post a comment?

Posted by Kelly Dix, Real Estate One (Real Estate One) over 1 year ago

Kelly - Once you become a RainMaker or cross the 10,000 point threshold your picture will appear when you comment.  If you'd like more information, please email me at kerrie@activerain.com and I can explain more.
