Did you know that you are missing out on some SEO opportunities in your Active Rain Profile and Settings? Yesterday, I did a post regarding "How To Use Your "My Settings" Page" I received many comments and quite a few questions. The "My Settings" link in Active Rain clearly has some great value and benefits to you and your Blog. There is one particular question that came up by Roswell Ga Real Estate - Nancy Rivera who runs RoswellGaRealtor.GeorgiaMLS.com about an area on the "My Settings" page.
She asked,"Brad - I have a question about #3, if you don't mind. I used to have something in this box but when looking at my Blog, I never saw what was written there so I removed it and added it to #2 instead. Is this something that I would see? If so, where? Or is this something that Google sees? Thanks for your time." MORE DETAILS>>>
What Nancy was referring to, is the "Blog Description Text" Box on your "My Settings" Link in Active Rain. I did some research and found out that this box is used for SEO purposes. It is also used in cases where Active Rain displays lists of blog entries, but they don't want to include and show all of the HTML tags and widgets that people have added to their Blogs. (VERY SMART, these folks behind the scenes at AR.) This may very well be one of the best and yet most under utilized tool (or section) here on Active Rain! This is HUGE!!

What you place in the "Blog Description Text" box is used in the "meta-description tag" on a page. It is also used when viewing posts from multiple members of Active Rain in one place or location. For example: http://activerain.com/blogs, it gets utilized here. There are probably many of you who didn't even know that this was available or existed...I admit, I didn't. There are no buttons or links for access to this area of AR, you can only get here if you type in the URL. http://activerain.com/blogs
Here's a sample of what it looks like:

I researched hundreds of AR members tonight, and I was totally surprised at how many are not taking advantage of this. (Like me, they probably just didn't know) If you use the settings in Active Rain according to their purpose, then you are more likely to get more out of your efforts and Blogs here on Active Rain. Half the battle is just knowing this information is available and how to use it. Well, hopefully, half your battle was just won here today! Search Engine Optimization (SEO) never hurts anyone, at least not in my experience. Just be sure to always focus on your content. This could be one of the more valuable and over-looked areas on Active Rain!!
Which (randomly selected) member is getting the most out of their Active Rain Settings using the "Blog Description Text" box for SEO?
If you guessed Bill Cherry, then you're getting all this, and you are 100% right! This simply means we all need to review and modify what we've typed into that little box! I just updated and modified mine before submitting this post.
I humbly suggest that you take full advantage of these tools that Active Rain has to offer, especially when it comes to SEO, or what I'd like to refer to as (Search Engine Opportunity). You can only get the most out of the things in life that you know about...So when it comes to Active Rain "Settings" and "SEO" Benefits... Now You Know! :-)

Brad, thanks again for all of your help and hard work. It's bookmarked, with the rest of yours, and it's right on as usual.
best
Thanks Brad,
Just stuffed mine full to the brim with my 100 words.
Excellente!
Moises Pagan www.contracosta-realestate.com
Excellent, Brad. I have been making metatag and description changes in my website but had not done that here. Thanks for the reminder. All done!
How are things in your neck of the woods?
Jeff
Brad - First I would like to say what a great post again. You have been busy tonight! It took me a while to find it, but I finally figured out where to actually see the Blog Descriptions. I ran through the html on my blog page and I didn't see anywhere, but there was one meta tag that made a strange reference. I wonder if they AR crew has a hidden place that they stash the deceptions. Maybe I am just blind, but really I didn't see it in my blog's html anywhere and it would have to be in the meta's? I will have to Finnish my blog description tomorrow because its getting late. Thanks for your hard work and willingness to share this.
Brad -
It was great talking to you tonight. Thanks so, so much for digging until you found answers. I owe you big time! The next hour will be spent filling in BOX #3. Thanks again!
Hey Des - you are just too darn pushy, and I am just too darn stubborn!! The answer is NO! Ok, I'll be Mr. Techno for you, BUT I'M STAYING IN THE CLOSET!!! ROFLOL!! :-)
Ummmm - this was me commenting.....
Brad -
It was great talking to you tonight. Thanks so, so much for digging until you found answers. I owe you big time! The next hour will be spent filling in BOX #3. Thanks again!
I originally accessed this post by going to http://activerain.com/blogs. I didn't login before I commented. DUH! Anyway, thanks again, Brad. You've proved to us all that you're the "go to" guy when chatting in the Rain.
Excellent, Brad. I have been making metatag and description changes in my website but had not done that here. Thanks for the reminder. All done! How are things in your neck of the woods? Jeff
Jeff - I just had to jump ahead here, how are you doing down there? How close are you to the fires. I heard today about Brian Brady and Jeff Turner, I know there are many of our friends here from AR that are in need right now. How are you? Everything ok? Do I need to get into the car and come down there? I can give a hand if you guys need! Serious, I'd fly down right away, just give me the word. I'm in escrow, I put out fires ALL day. (sorry, bad time for stupid humor) I missed the news tonight but am staying up with things at the online news sites, and the posts here. Let me know you're all ok. Our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected by the fires down there. This is just terrible! 707 888-6299 if you need me!
Thanks for the information and for taking the time to point this out. Search Engine Optimization is something only a chosen few are able to understand, and you are obviously one of the gurus.
I am off to enhance my settings now...
Great tip! Just one question - if I added "Brads all that" - do I separate it with commas? Just kidding - Thank You.
Hey Brad - another bookmarked post of yours!!! I'm hoping to get to this info and the stuff in your last post on settings this week. I'm heading out for a little vacation, WITH computer, so hope to have some time to catch up on all the really cool stuff like this.
Thanks again for sharing this info with us - you really do R-O-C-K!!!
Ann
Thanks for the info, Brad. Like you, I wasn't aware of that. I'm going over right now and making the changes. Thanks again.
Brad,
Updated and appreciated!
AR has been good to me, and with your help, will be a little better.
Thanks YOU!
Brad:
Good info. I bookmarked this blog so I can use it for reference later
Wow, thank you Brad!
I would never have known how to use this box at all if you hadn't explained it.
Brad,
AN excellent post. I've printed it out and now, I just have to figure out how to get this accomplished. I always appreciate a member taking the time to educate us.
thanks for taking the time to do this research for us all.
Great post. I am going to update mine now. I had a lot of information in there before, but thanks to you I can get it organized,
J.
Im glad I dropped in, I am changing my settings after this post and subscribing to the blog, ;-) Thanks for posting this valuable infomation!

You're unreal Brad. I wish you could get paid for all your posts! You truly know your stuff or at least know where to go to get information. Just know that all of us who subscribe to your blog really appreciate the work that you put into your posts for the benefit of us all (and you of course.)
Thanks,
Maria
Brad, your amazing! Thanks for the heads up on this. I'll be implementing the blog text in a minute.
How's your list of bookmarks? It's a shame we can't see each others anymore!
EEEK!
I am like the guy in the first picture!
Why do you always create more work for me???
The BEST thing I did today is read your blog! Thanks!
I learn something new everyday! Thanks very much. I had an idea that it might be used for meta data or SEO but was not sure, and further unclear on how to test if it is actually effective.
thanks again!
WOW Brad..... Keep it comming... Thanks for all the information..... This answers all my questions.... I know that being a part of A/R has been one of my greatess achievement... Thanks for sharing
You're like the energizer bunny when it comes to giving us good, helpful information and advice. You just keep going and going! Thanks for it all!
Again, thank you very much, as I said before I learn so much here. Your tips are very easy for anyone to understand and follow!
Huh, just when I was about to put it on auto-pilot and let the leads roll in, you're telling me there's more work to be done???
Thanks for the info. (Even if it means the to-do list just got even longer . . . guess if you're gonna do it, do it right! Right?).
Now to figure out the magic 100 words . . .
Brad,
It took me a long time, but I finally figured it out, I think. I read a very good post on meta and html tags by Angie Vanderbush, which really assisted me a lot as well.
Brad,
Nice and helpful post! Very clear and easy to understand with the visual charts.
Dave
Brad, muchas gracias. thank you. Lupe
Brad,
Great post, with just a little information, you can make you SEO ranking take a BIG jump. Thanks again for the post.
Brad - Thanks - I will tweak mine and see what happens.
This AR thing really works! I am seeing it first hand now!
Your a genius!
Gary - thanks!
Ibi - you're welcome, we all need to work on this stuff constantly to improve
Sandi - thanks, this is probably one of my best posts for information in months as well
Ulises - glad you found this to be informational and beneficial,
Jason - I was unaware Brad had posted on this particular issue, I must have missed it. Thanks!
Moe - 100 words is a lot, hopefully your Blog will get picked up by the search engines a bit more now.
Jeff - sure hope you guys are doing ok down there, the news about the fires is just horrible.
If you or any of the other members down there need anything, you know we're her for ya! :-)
Marlene - HTML is cool but not necessary to tell me WOW! But I would like to know what lucma means... :-)
I'll start my series on HTML in November or December for you!!
Ryan - the only place you will see what you typed in that box is by going up into your address bar and typing in the URL http://activerain.com/blogs. There are no links to this portion of AR, you can only get there by the URL. It is used for multiple members blogs in one area of AR and for SEO only. Let me know if you need help.
Nancy - it was great talking with you as well tonight, if I didn't did to find the answer to your question, this would have never been discovered, at least not by me. This post is in your honor and dedicated to you! :-)
Rich - thanks for the new nick-name, " Sponge Brad Smarty Pants" has a nice ring to it eh? :-)
Julie - way to go, it's simple when you know where to go and what to do, glad this helped and was easy for you.
Linda - the more we learn about the things we don't know, the better we get at reaping the benefits. My goal is to help others understand SEO and all the other techno jargon that's out there. Paying it forward, is Karma's uncle.
Joe - thanks, I'll try not to ever let you down, but one day, like everything in life, I will have to stop. Sad thing is, that in 100 years, the one thing we all have in common is that we'll all be gone, but hopefully my Blog (and yours), will still be going strong!! LOL!
David - that's a pretty TALL compliment...no pun intended!! LOL! Thanks my friend!
Nick - thanks for the ball park analogy! If you're going to swing at the ball in life, we always need to aim for the parking lot right? Glad you felt this post did that. Thanks again Nick! :-)
TJ - if you want to add that phrase to the box, you won't need any commas. Just for fun I did a google search on that phrase and look what came up:
Darrel - Active Rain is a learning experience just like life. Some things can be shared and learned, others have to be learned by just doing and experience. Glad this brought some value to your Blog and hopefully your business. Thanks my friend!! Great to hear from you.
Ann - thanks, one suggestion...vacation means AWAY from the computer you know!! LOL! I hope you have a great time, be safe, and we'll look forward to seeing your new settings drive you to the top of google and yahoo.
Chris - torture buyers in the winter? Now that doesn't sound like a very good thing! LOL! I have a thermostat too but it looks more like this...

Kris - you are soooooo welcome, I don't think many of us knew this was there or how to use it effectively!
Missy - someone's gotta do it, better than the bamboo under the finger nails, now that's torture! LOL! Thanks.
Yvonne - the time spent researching this to find a result this could was worth every hour that went into it. The real thanks should go to Nancy for asking the question. The needs of "One" once again benefit the needs of the many! Thank you. :-)
Brigita - let me know how that works for you. I'm here if you need any help with it. Thanks!
Mike - no problem. Glad you got everything updated and in order, I hope you reap HUGE beefits from thi post and your settings changes! Enjoy!! :-)
Brad -I hope they have enough bookmarks in this place. I just finished implementing advice from your last post, and now I have do more. Just to make sure I understood, I entered the key words into HTML meta tags, and now I have to just write them in the description? Sorry, for the slow up-take of the techno-challenged. When I look at all your blinking gizmos on the right hand side, I know the extent of my challenge. Thanks so much.
Faina - they have plenty of space for all your bookmarks, no worries. Regarding entering the "keywords" into the "Blog Description Text" box, this is for an entirely different purpose than what I mentioned in the previous post. This is AR's section for SEO and simplifying the whole "meta-tag" concept for people who may not understand it or it's value. It also only shows up under your photo if you go to http://activerain.com/blogs which is not accessible from any other place on AR. Trust me, it's more important to put your keywords in this box than where I had explained before, as I didn't have the knowledge that this was the purpose of this specific "description box".
Great articel. certainly helps me understand how I can effectively use Active Rain
Brad - Thanks so much for taking the time to put this information together. It is one of the best and most useful posts that I have read on Active Rain.
Rhona - thank you for your wonderful compliment. This is probably one of my better posts in awhile, it will really help get your Blog more SEO and exposure. It's nice to have our posts get love, but the entire Blog is even better in my opinion. Thank you, I appreciate your comment and your support to my Blog! :-)
brad-
Thanks so much. That is really helpful!
Hi Brad..
I think I'm missing somthing... I updated my blog description, but I've also recheckit. My name still doesn't come up, but after I goggle my name... fill me in if possible.... I know that your alwys there for me....
Thanks in advance... Donna
Thanks again for all of this content. You seem to always have good info. Please keep it comin.
Keep on Bloggin my friend.
Ron
I know the pun was intended...and it was a good pun, too! We have been brainstorming trying to revamp our marketing efforts. We came up with "FOR BIG RESULTS, CALL SMALL!!" Whatcha think? Honestly!!
Excellent post once again Brad. That's it...I haven't subscribed to ANYONE's blog on AR yet...but I am for yurs because you simply provide TOO MUCH GREAT INFO!
Thanks sir. Once again...you ROCK!
Beth
Bob - I spoke with Lisa on the phone last night, what a great couple you both are. Thanks for the comment, I'm always here for you guys no matter what the need. Musically yours, Brad! :-)
Terry - thanks, go fill in the blanks and let's see what it does for your Blog and your SEO! Enjoy!!
Dave - thanks for the comment, I'm glad there are people out there who appreciate the time and effort that goes into a post and a blog like this. It makes it all worth while.
Jeff - glad it's all coming together for you. I'll be checking out your blog to see your modifications! Goo job! :-)
Hasn't Google moved away from meta-data towards the info they glean from surfing the site? I'm certainly not the authority on this, but I would swear that I've read that the big G is trying to keep people from gaming their meta-data and they are not using it so much. Of course, I think Yahoo and MSN are still utilizing it, but if Google's algorithms are moving in a different direction, I would bet everyone else will follow (that's been the pattern).
Lane - great comment and question. I'm not really the expert either, but I can tell you that meta-tags are still apart of the SEO tools used by many search engines. In Active Rain, many are getting the SEO from their posts, but not from their overall Blog. It's like a sub-directory on a website that get's SEO but not the homepage itself. I think that's all we're trying to accomplish here. There are some great HTML source members here on AR, and I have not heard what you've claimed to be a real issue yet. Doesn't mean that tomorrow all that could change.
Bryan - don't let being new prevent you from being the BEST you can be. Thanks for the comment, I'll keep posting if you'll keep commenting! LOL! I think there's some SEO in that as well! :-)
Christy - Only change what you feel you need to. Your description may already be what you want or need. This is mostly for those who have let the box blank or out minimal information. Always great to have your comments and visits, thanks!! :-)
Brian - glad you dropped in too, and thanks for subscribing to my blog. I'll check out the links you included in your comment too. Just be careful when doing that on other members posts, many of them consider it spam and they'll delete your comment. Thanks my friend! :-)
Brad - I thought that was what the search engines display when they list your site on google. I went in and fixed mine and added some tags. Thanks for the info.
Maureen - it may show up there as well, but this is a sure thing here. By fixing and adding some tags to your settings, it can only help, it sure won't hurt. Thanks Maureen
Brad, I had thought a major source of SEO came from the tag clouds we create. From now on, the Blog Description Text box will be forever known as Box #3! I have some questions about this but will ask you off-post.
Thanks for your kind comments and for adding me as an associate. I look forward to visiting your photography and music blogs...
You're unreal Brad. I wish you could get paid for all your posts! You truly know your stuff or at least know where to go to get information. Just know that all of us who subscribe to your blog really appreciate the work that you put into your posts for the benefit of us all (and you of course.)
Maria - thanks ...I wish that too! LOL! I do like to consider myself a resource to my friends and family (including my AR family). Your comment made me actually blush, it was very sweet of you to say that! Thanks so much, I'll try and not let you down with my posts! Have a great week! ;-)
Dane - my list of bookmarks is long and un-manageable!! LOL! There has to be a better way huh? :-)
Rick and Lynn - you are always so appreciative, that's the biggest part of why I do it. You guys are great!
Ricki - I do get the message, and thank you! It's appreciated again and again and again! :-)
Sarah - I don't mean to create more work for you, only more business for you. Hope this helps!
Bright - you are not dumb, in fact I think you live up to your name! There's a reason mom and dad did that!! :-)
Kim - if that was the best thing you did today, we gotta talk! LOL! Thanks, your comment made my day!
Kotambu - you are always welcome, glad I can post something that's of value sometimes. Thanks!
Matt - thanks! You don't want to be me though, at this rate, I'll have carpel tunnel in the next year! LOL!
Sherry - Now that you know, I hope you'll make the best of a great opportunity. It's your entire Blog that wins.
Donna - I'll keep it coming till I run outta gas! LOL! These are the most important areas I have found on AR.
Larry - I believe in Karma as well, and the payoff for ALL our efforts is always returned. Thanks my friend! :-)
Kathy - I never heard it quite put that way, "Hogging Knowledge," maybe my next post title! Thanks, Love it!
Todd - can't fix what we don't know right? This should get your Blog noticed and not just your posts! :-)
Gail - sorry to make more work for you, hopefully even more work is coming..buyers, sellers, clients, deals....
Doug - thanks! It's a small change and might make a small difference, it's the best way to eat an elephant!
David - ........................... still going!! LOL! Thanks! :-)
Natalie - you can resize any graphic by clicking on it, then drag one corner inward. That should work. LMK!
Ron - thanks, making them easy to read and understandable is one of my biggest challenges! Edit, Edit, Edit!
Julie -find that free time, it will only take you 10 minutes of thought and 5 minutes to implement. You Win!!
Trent - you said it best, those 100 words can truly be magical! Sorry to add to the growth of your to-do list! :)
John - I think this was news to many of us including me. It will help get your entire Blog some SEO! It's Good!
Fran - I'll have to check out Angie's post, I'm sure it's awesome if you're endorsing it! Thanks! :-)
Dave - thank you, using the visual aids helps break up the post and hopefully makes it easier to read!
Karen Anne - you can put this post under the pillow, but you're too far for me to bring you a quarter! LOL! :-)
Lupe - you're welcome! We need to talk about some relocation ideas I have for you. I'll be in touch soon!
Randy - many of us over-looked this area only because we didn't know. This is a recent discovery for me too.
Kate - I knew this was there, just wasn't entirely sure of it's purpose. Like Nancy, I wanted to know more! Thx!
Mark - your posts are getting SEO for sure, but this relates to your entire Blog overall. It's great to know this.
Paul - this AR thing really does work, but it's the people that make it happen, AR is the conduit! Thanks Paul!
Karen Anne - thanks for coming back a second time to comment. That was very kind and appreciated! WOW!
Jill - Einstein was genius, I'm just an AR member who figured out how to better maximize a box in AR! LOL! :)
Michael - thanks for subscribing and for your wonderful comment. That was very kind and very humbling. :-)
Kathleen - AR is a mine of gold, sometimes we do have to dig down a bit to find that little chunk of GOLD!
Anne and Eddie - glad this helps you understand how you can be using your AR settings more effectively!
Bryce - glad you found this post to be helpful, I hope it gets you more business and SEO for your area! :-)
Donna - sorry for the delayed response here, I'll take a look at it for you and see what we can do to fix it.
Ron - I do my best and will continue to do so! Happy blogging to you as well my friend!
David - love your one-liner, you should write down 5 of them, then decide after you exhaust your ideas! Think Big!
Fred - anytime!
Ralph - you're welcome!
Beth - that is truly the greatest comment a guy can get! Thanks for subscribing, I'll try not to let you down! :-)
Maria - glad you were able to stuff that box with the necessary content to get you the SEO you deserve! Cool!
Ginger - I look forward to your call. No worries, I think we are all very busy right now, just don't burn yourself out!
Jeff - I don't think you are underutilized, but maybe your settings were! LOL! Hope this gets you some SEO!
Christi - thank you, I think you're the best too! Takes a special person to read a post and comment like that!
Brian - I look forward to your "off-post" questions, hopefully I can help. Thanks for adding me as well! :-)
Irina - there will be a total of 4 in this series, and then I have to get back to my other ideas and blogs! Thx!!!
What an awesome post, I will be implementing the info asap! I didn't do much work on the metatags on my blog but I have been really busy with them on my website. Now both will be SEO!
Thanks
Hi Brad: thanks for looking into it for me... Whenever I do a search on Goolge my name only comes up on the 3rd page.. I though if I place have details in the description box it will let me more come up more in a search....Where did come up on your search.. let me know...
Thanks ina advance again Brad.... Your the MAN...
Rey - thanks for your comment, and yes, you're right, it does have to be used for something! By the way, I love the nick-name
That's awesome, I'm a steak and potatoes kinda guy!! :-)
Thanks for taking the time to post all this great information! Being new at blogging, I can certainly use all the help I can get!! I have updated several, but I think I still have more work to do!
Hello again Brad,
Your everywhere on www.activerain.com with information on so many interesting subjects; it's like my personal seminar. Thanks, thanks, thanks!!
Jim - DeJaVu!! Didn't you leave this same comment on the post before this? (LOL) Glad you're making your way around my blog, hope you're getting some useful info from these personal "Seminars" you're getting! hahaha! Thanks my friend for taking the time to read these, reply, and implement! I know that many other members are benefiting as much as those I wrote them for. Have a "productive" weekend! :-)
DeJaVu all over again. I'm a newbie (10/15/07) and I thought I didn't properly send the 1st one, hence the double comment. Sorry! LOL
Thanks once again!
Brad you are a hugh source of information thanks for the help again.
Steve
Brad,
This is getting to be an every day thing. We have got to quit meeting like this. Great information.
Thanks
Steven - glad you found this, I had lost it! lol~ Looks like with the new AR customizer, I'll have to make a few adjustments, thanks. Stop by anytime my friend, aloha nui loa! :-)
Don - but meeting this way has so much mutual benefit and value!! Thanks for making me feel so important by coming by everyday, love your company and comments. :-))
I need to make some changes to mine right now. Thanks for the remainder. Maybe after I make some changes,I will finally get my lead that I have been waiting to get from Active Rain. Thanks Brad.
This is very interesting! I'm going to watch this forum! understanding this is like finding the holy grail when it comes to blogging.
Lanre - forget about leads, I hope you get some deals!! (Big Smile) :-))
Paul - not sure about the Holy Grail thing, but you're welcomed to "Park" and hangout here as long as you like. Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Always great to see ya! :-))
Brad - Thanks for this great post and for all of the other great info you supply. I followed your directions to the tee - or so I thought. When I go back to "My Settings" I see my changes there but when I "view source" on my profile and on my blog the description and keywords are still the stock AR description and keywords as they were before. What am I doing wrong? I tried to fix this many times so I would not have to bother you but I just can't figure it out.
Thanks for your help.
-Al
Bless you Brad!!!!! I read your blog and I'm thinking, "I know I did that. It makes perfect sense. I wouldn't leave a box empty. It wouldn't be there if it didn't have a purpose."
Then I went and checked. OMG!!! How could I have been so stupid. A big white hole!
Not any more. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!
Al - those keywords only show up if you're viewing the Blog roll. It will appear under your photo on the right hand side. But the SEO for your entire Blog is in that box. See the screen shots in the post above, it shows the different text that each members used.
To see a real time check, just click on "Blogs" at the top of the screen, then click on "More" at the bottom of the page and you'll see what I'm talking about. This is the only place your SEO keywords will show up where you can actually see them.
Let me know if you need some help or get stuck with this. :-)
Kathy - That's Awesome!! You are so welcome, I hope it gets you more SEO and leads and business! :-)
Brad, you did it again. I think I tried this and it didn't work. I will go back and try it again.
I'm going to go get a screen shot to show you where this shows up on AR. Most people never see it because they rrely look at these pages, but I'll be back with a screen shot for ya'all. :-))
STOP HERE!!!
THIS IS HOW YOU CHECK TO SEE IF YOU DID IT RIGHT!!!
Here's a screen shot to see where your SEO text on your Blog will show up. Just follow the instructions on the image below. This is the only place it will show, not on your profile or your blog, only on the screen below:
Leslie - let me know if the screen shot above helps you at all, if not, call me and I'll show you how to check and make sure your keywords are in the right spot and showing up. :-)
Thanks BRAD - I am excited and thanks for telling all of us - You are right, as usual, most did not know. But all have become stronger by the sharing.
Connor MacIVOR
Paris911
John,
I have so much to learn and only 24 hours a day....
I'll be reading you,
Lisa
Connor and Paris - stay excited! Attitude determines Altitude. Thanks... :-)
Lisa - I'm not John, but I have been called much worse. lol~ You must have had a long day, and the rain will do that to you, feel free to come by and read anytime, you are always welcomed here. Thanks! :-)
Thank you very much Brad! I followed your easy tutorial and posted the blog description and saved it. Because of my widegets the blog description is not showing up under my picture. Does it have to show in order for it to work?
Your advice would be very much appreciated!
Mirela - it will not show up on your Blog page where your widgets are. It only shows up to the search engines and when you are in the Blog Roll view. To see the Blog Roll view, just click on the "Blogs" link at the top of the page, and then click on "Show Full Posts", that's whre you will see your additions. See the image I added to the comments 7 comments above this one, it's a sample to show you where your description will appear. :)
I wanted to say thank you before i run off and fix my blog setting. i enkoy the site and all the information.
Mindy and Jay, you are so welcome, now go run off and enjoy some of the rain puddles here!! :-)
Great tip. I went out and changed my settings immediately. Not easy to come with 100 possible keywords for SEO. 60 plus words will do. Better than zero.
Kevin - 60 words is plenty, definitely better than zero my friend. Hope it helps! :-)
Brad, thanks for the tip! I actually did this some time ago, but in looking at my blog again, I think I may need to make some changes to better place myself with the words that I use. ActiveRain has some great SEO and we might as well take advantage of it to push ourselves to the tops of our markets.
Stephen - every little bit helps. We do have quite an audience with google and some of the other search engines. Updating and making changes regularly can actually be a good thing. :-)
Brad-
Thank You very much for your excellent and invaluable information. I immediately updated my blog description and title!
Also, another thanks to Ronald Gillis for pointing me in the right direction to find all of these wonderful and infomative posts. It was because of him that I found you!
Cheryl Lee Anderson
Cheryl - I'm glad Ronald Gillis pointed you my way, I'll have to let him know the checks in the mail! lol~ I hope this information will be helpful useful to you, thanks for taking the time to stop by and comment! :-)
Thank you! I'm a newbie and I would definitely like to get a handle on the ins and outs!
Good advice. Thanks
Regan - this is one of the best areas to get a handle on. SEO is a powerful!! Best of luck to you in the "rain"!
Thanks Brad! My Blog description was blank!!! Gulp. I had no idea. Very good tip. Thanks again for sharing.
Andrew - glad you found this post. Blank is NOT good, Google and the other SE's don't like blank! :-)
Mine is blank too, but that will be changed shortly. We have so much info at the tips of our fingers on AR and I am amazed. It's like feeling like building a brick house; one brick at a time. Thanks for the post!
Teresa - well you better get over there and take care of that! :-)) Don't want the big bad wolf to come by and start blowing down your bricks! lol~ Have fun, let me know if you have any questions. :-)
I will go back and check this right now.
There is a problem with your initial post.
if you go here http://activerain.com/blogsview/598850/The-ActiveRain-Starter-Kit and then down further and click here Some Advanced SEO Tools and Information
What is SEO and How to maximize it on ActiveRain
The other link in that section http://activerain.com/blogsview/246598/Active-Rain-Settings-SEO is correct.
FYI
sorry if I am incorrect.
Thanks Shane, I'll check it out and get that corrected right away, thanks for looking out for me, I got your back if you ever need. :-))
Christine - let me know if you need any help with this. It's a powerful part of your Blog and SEO on AR. :-)
You are so wonderful...
Maya - awwwwh shucks! (blushing 3 shades of red) :-)
Brad, Thanks for the great information, I totally do NOT know what I am doing, but I followed your instructions for My Settings Page, since I know NOTHING about SEO, etc., I used your 2A with 10 days, and 2C, using the keywords that are on my website, did I do this correct? I think I'm really glad I specialize in Real Estate, I don't know about this tech stuff.
Have A Great Day
Doris - Beautiful! That's it. I don't have the other post in front of me to confirm 2A and 2C, but if that's what I said, I'm stickin to it. haha. Now try searching those keywords after a few days and see where you show up in Google. Your Goal is to be #1 on page one!! :-)))
Brad-As always your informative posts are wonderful and just think that was written a year ago. Amazing. Thank you for consistently coming up with ways to build an community at AR and beyond.
Brad,
Thanks for the information. Off to work on you information now.
Pat - thanks for your comments, I have been seeing you all over the place in the "rain". Great to know when you're appreciated, I hope you know that YOU are too. Let me know if I can ever be of any assistance to you, your efforts here will payoff in the long run, I promise. :-)
Mark - Hope this helps, good luck to you, and be sure to keep it real and fun!! :-)
I am getting my first blog ready - I think I will do this first! Thank you!
Sandy - looking forward to your first post, let me know when it's done ok? Thanks. :-)
Hi Brad,
Thanks for your response. I went ahead and posted last night. It was exciting. LOL
Sandy - I'll check it out, but you forgot to login when you left your comment above. Always remember to log in first so you'll have all the tools available, plus you'll get 25 points for the comments you leave on members posts. (up to 10 per day) Thanks.

Brad - I am trying to add the google meta tag to my blog, but google is unable to verify. The error says that it's looking for the one I pased into my blog description box (the unique one that google gave me), but it's finding something else. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I am so happy I did read that blog, I am going to make the change right know in my setting.
Sheridan - not sure, I would try repasting the code into the second box (the one that allows HTML) on your "My Settings" page. Hopefully that will fix it. Sometimes you have to wait a couple days for it to register and kick in. Let me know if that works, if not, we can take a look at it and make sure you're pasting the right code into the right place. Thanks. :-)
Stephanie - thats great. Many members here aren't aware of this and it will really make a difference in the search engine optimization. I ran this by Matt Heaton some time ago to confirm. :-)
Brad thanks for sharing - THIS IS HUGE!!!!!!
OCF - That was nice, thanks... I mean
THANKS!! :-)
Nice job, Brad! It's nice to get this info now while I'm just getting started. I think the only questions that are have on on the HTML tags, which I'll probably just refer to my web designer on. Although, in this market, I should be doing anything and everything I can, myself, to save money. Delegation is the key to success, but it's tough to accomplish this in a trying market.
Mark - just let me know what tags you need help with, I do have a post regarding all the approved widgets and HTML codes on the network. Thanks. :-)
Thanks, Brad. Sorry for the delayed response, but it was a busy, snowy weekend up here in Tahoe. Let me know when would be a good time to possibly talk on the phone to go over a variety of questions that I have. I don't mean to assume that you have this extra time, but you definitely seem to be very helpful with all. Gary Bolen is a good friend and collegue of mine and see that you guys hit it off pretty good....music and real estate. How can you go wrong, right?
Let me know and I'll get you a shout. Thanks again ~
Mark - let's push it till after the Holidays, I got family in town, then I'll be off visiting family, we can put some time aside after the Christmas Rush and New Years parties. Looking forward to it, and if you see the Bolen Brothers, give em a big Santa hug from us, thanks. :-)
I will definitely throw the Bolens a 'virtual' hug. :)
We'll talk after the holidays, as I've got the same happenings going on. Family, friends, and good times. Happy Holidays and we'll talk with you soon.
Thanks Mark - Looking forward to it. :-)
Brad,
I'm just really starting to understand a little bit about how to make this effective. I appreciate the detailed instructions and advice. I'm following it to the letter. If I totally mess it up, I have you to blame--just kidding! I know it will help me and my business. keep up the great work!
kevin
Kevin - SEO isn't everything....but almost!! If you need me, you know where to find me... thanks for taking time to read and leave me a comment, I really do appreciate that. :-)
Thanks for your easy to understand directions for setting up my active rain page and the associated information pages to make it even better. I am coming along slowly but progressing forward each day. Karen Waite (Gateway Realty of North Platte GMAC)
Thank you Brad for your valuable information. I am just getting started on my blog and found your blog indispensible. I am so overwhelmed... so much to learn...
Zilkia - eat the elephant one bite at a time. Don't get overwhelmed, even taking baby steps, you'll still be ahead of the general Real Estate Industry population. NEVER try and drink out of a fire hose!! lol~ :-)
This is some great info. I was wondering if A/R had the capability to customize meta tags.
Thanks for all your great posts....
I added a little blurb here, but I'm going to take another look at it now that I've read your blog. Thanks.
Once again thanks for the valuable information.
I learn something new every day from you!! I just checked and I don't have any blog settings set up - none, nada! Thanks again.
Meg - It just says "settings" now, this is an older post and changes have been made to that page. Try the "Settings" link on your "My Home" page. Thanks. :-)
More critical info, Brad - I wish I had read this the first day instead of waiting until now. Thanks again.
I am still finding so much more that AR has to offer the more I look around.
Troy - and while you're looking around, there is more being added to AR for your future findings. :-)
Thanks for stoppin by and for your comment.
Brad my profile needs a makeover. I have been reviewing blogs for the past weeks to give me an idea how I want my new Active Rain Profile to look. This one was very helpful. Much success to you in 2011. Great post.
Lanre - glad you found this post useful, have a great and safe new year celebration my friend.
I look forward to seeing your new 2011 AR revised profile. :-)
Good stuff! Thank You!
Wow, I didn't realize this was so important. Thanks for the great tip!
