A picture is worth a thousand words and it certainly enhances a blog. Pictures get attention and help illustrate a point. Sometimes pictures have no point, but then some blogs are pointless too! :)
Before adding a picture, you need to know if it is protected by copyright. If it doesn't belong to you, you can but the rights to use it, or you can use your own photo. Using a photo that does not belong to you is stealing, plain and simple.
Where can you find pictures to purchase?
Doing a Google search for "royalty free photos" will yield many sources for photos. Please note, just because the photo is "royalty free" doesn't mean it is free. You will need to pay for the photo. You can buy a catalog of real estate photos, or a single photo. I like using
Most of the time, I prefer to use my own photos of sites in and around Denver, Colorado. I take tons of photos and have a collection of pictures from many places. So when possible I use my own stock. You can do the same.
Instructions for uploading Photos
I keep my photos on my hard drive in a folder called, "MY Pictures" Within that folder I have additional subfolders named after what ever the photo is about. When I use a photo in my Blog, I keep that photo in a folder named "blog pics" just so I can easily find it.
Once you have written your blog, you can add a photo. While in the blog composition box, you click on the tool bar at the top.
After clicking on the "picture of a tree" another dialog box will appear. It looks like this:

The red arrow above shows where you need to click, It will bring up a "search box" that looks like this:

The next step; click on the "Browse" button. Now you need to know where the photo is on your computer. Surf to the proper file.
My photo file looks like this:

When you find your photo, click on it. The file will then load into the "File Name" box. Click "open"
The picture file is then loaded into the "Upload box" that looks like this:

Once you click on the "Upload Photo" box, the next box you will see will be one that requires you to adjust the photo's attributes for positioning on the page. You will also give the photo a description (to aid impaired viewers & a title) Be sure to pay attention to BOTH tabs at the top. See the illustration below.

The Appearance tab looks like this:

The second tab is very important for placing your photo on the page. If you don't give the proper instructions, you end up with a mess.
Once this section is complete, click INSERT. In a few seconds (be patient) your photo will appear on your blog. If it doesn't work, keep practicing. Usually if it fails it's a user error. I know about that, trust me! :)

Hi Kristal, I'm definitely a big fan of pictures in blogs... that is, afterall, how you found your dream house in Wenatchee!
KK,
Thanks for complete explanation. I'm going to copy and print out your instructions and try it.
I can upload to my Google blog with no problems...so I should be able to do this.
And, I always use my own original photos...
Hi Carol, Yes, that's my dream house. I'm saving my pennies to buy it someday. BTW where is Wenatchee? ;)
Eric ~ Yes, people use my photos. That's why I have an attorney. :)
Eileen, I did this for you, after your request today. It's been wierd making the graphics as I went. I confused myself! Let me know if it makes sense, or not!
kk
Kristal,
Wenatchee is in the geographic center of Washington State. The Apple Capital of the World and the Power Belt of the Pacific Northwest. The region has the cheapest electric rates in the nation (2.5 cents per kwh) because of all the dams along the Mighty Columbia River. This cheap power is what is luring Microsoft and Yahoo and other technology businesses to our area.
I never knew about the appearance tab! thanks for enlightening me.
Ginger
Kristal, AWESOME instructional post!! These kinds of posts are so helpful to alot of us who haven't quite figured out all the nuances on our own. And thanks for the links to the photos sites - very useful as well.
Thanks!
Ann Cummings
Excellent post & very very helpful. I store my photos online with "Flickr." I did not realize I could upload from my own photo files.
Jay Merton
Thanks for the post, Kristal. It's easy to forget that many new members don't go back through the archives, so old is new. Posting photos is SO much easier since ActiveRain added this direct upload.
Hope you're planning a Part II which relates to the various choices in the Attribute Tab.
GREAT POST ! ! ! !
Except, with me, it's ALWAYS user error.
I love photos and images. I plan to add more to my web sites soon. I have thousands that I take just driving around. I have a library of about 10,000 photos. I need to get them organized. I'll do that when I finished Homefinders.com new site and when I finish the new site for new homes that I started, and when I finish the new site for farms that I started and when I finish the new site for first time home buyers that I started and when I finish . . . . . . .
Lenn
Wow!! Talk about amazing instructions! This must have taken you forever to put together. Thanks!
I made the mistake of copy and paste my pictures into one of my first blogs. It should up on my, but never made to the official posting. I have since learned... the fun part is finding pictures on the net that I can use.
Thanks.
Ginger ~ Isn't it funny how we can look at something and not really See it! I do that more often than I care to admit. Glad to have been of help.
Ann ~ Ann you are welcome. Hope you find it easy to understand, if you didn't know it already.
Jay ~ We used to have to use Flickr, then one day that changed. In fact I didn't even notice it until Sharon Simms mentioned it. It was another one of those things I couldn't see for lookin'.
Sharon ~ I did instructions a long time ago, but now they are outdated. I agree, it's much easier now to load photos.
Lenn ~ LOL, you mean like logging in when you are commenting on the blogs? That's OK what ever you do is OK by me. You are fabulous. Besides I don't ever want to get on the wrong side of a woman who is a champion shooter...not smart on my part! haha
Ines ~ Thanks Ines, the hardest part was remembering what I was doing making a graphic or writing about it or where I was in what I was doing...yaddy yaya... It wasn't that hard...
Leanne ~ Thanks for the Gold Star, I do appreciate that! I just hope the detailed instructions are understandable. Not everyone can understand "jersey." :)
David ~ Once you try illustrating with a photo or two, you won't go back!
Jason ~ LOL, lot's of people do that. It's funny when you tell them "I can't see your pictures" and they don't believe you because they can see the photos! One of my competitors make that mistake on his website. I might have told him, but since he took my content (he's since removed it) I let him make a silly fool of himself. To bad! But now Jason you know...
Thanks all for stopping by. Please let me know if the instructions are clear enough to follow.
kk
You never cease to amaze me at the details you put in your blogs... this one particularly helped me and I thank you..... Now hopefully my pictures will be an important inclusion in the message as yours are....
Keep up the good work!!
Thanks Fran, glad to be of help. You have been missed around here. Hope your just busy with good things happening in your life!
kk
Just discovered this post after trial and error finally got me to somewhere close to where I wanted to be.
How, my guru, do you get the pics anywhere other than where they place themselves.
Thanks Kristal.
Ed
Cynthia ~ practice a little and you will catch on. If you are still having trouble, you can call me and I walk you through it. Good luck...
Ed ~ my pleasure!
Deb Salkeld ~ Trainer? Not really. I have given a few talks in my time, top producer panels, Realtor techie stuff (that is not really techie, but to Realtors is was :). Thanks for the compliment...I assume you meant it that way.
The photos do help people see what it is I am trying to say! Photos help with so much more than this...
I can't wait for part 2....there is a part 2 right..I hope ..I hope ..I hope
Monika ~ What were you hoping to learn in Part II? Give me a clue, I'll write it!!
KK
Hey Kristal,
For part 2, how about all those things that show up under the tab "appearance"? The 'vertical space', 'horizontal space', etc. - what does all that mean? I insert my picks, choose from 'alignment' on where I want it, and then resize and use the space bar once it's inserted if I need to adjust it. What do those other things mean?
Thanks!!
Ann
Ann ~ I am working on Part II, hopefully to be out soon. Thanks!
Craig ~ Glad to be of help. Hope to hear and see more of you Craig!
I know i'm LATE ...., however.....thanks for all of these instructions, i was wondering how it worked. In part 2 can you cover the pixel sizes....is there a limit?
Diane ~ better late than never! Yes, I have Part II on my ToDo list...stay tuned....
kk
Kristal,
I want to thank you for the information that you share in your blogs!! Especially this one. It has been very helpful!! I am having a little trouble but will keep working on it until I get it down pat!
Thanks again,
Jim Graham
You are welcome Jim. If you need help sometimes it's better to talk in person. Let me know and I can walk/talk you thru it!
kk
Suzi ~ size always matters! 400 pixels is about the largest you should use.
kk
Dawn ~ you are welcome! Good luck with it!
kk
Kristal,
I have written over 100 blog posts now and never did figure out how to post a picture to a blog on my own - this is awsome. you could write a Dummies Guide to ActiveRain - your instructions are just awesome.
Hop[e you are enjoying the rid int the pack - you were great up front.

Kristal:
Thank you for your very informative post. Generous people like you make it easy for people like me to navigate around AR and it is greatly appreciated. Pictures make any post so much more interesting, don't you think.
Still making an effort to include photos in my blog articles. Thanks for the tips.
Wow, I cannot believe how much great technical stuff I am learning from AR...Thanks for sharing and teaching....
Thanks for the tips!
How do you get the "View Reader Community" provided by mybloglog embedded into your activerain page?
I like that feature!
Also, when you are taking pictures, are you taking them on the highest quality setting and then reducing them to fit your web page, or are you taking them on the lower quality settings? Have you found that one method is better than the other?
Thanks again!
Thanks for the tutorial. It really makes it easier.
Thank you 'KK'.
How many more treasures like this have you contributed?
Kristal,
Thank you so much for taking the time to give this valuable information to us. Here is another website I had found months ago, but found it a bit confusing, http://www.bigstockphoto.com/. I am very greatful to you for sharing with us. Because of you, I now have more resources.
Thanks again, Shirley
Krystal,
Thanks, this is great information in an easy to understand format.
Krystal,
You made this so clear and easy to understand, much thanks. Now I am trying to print a couple of blogs/post comments that had valuable info that I want to keep someplace other than here on AR and I cannot find out how to do that. When I do the usual print command I get a blank page with the Active Rain info but that's it. Can you direct me to where to go to find out how to do this? Sorry to butt-in on the add a photo element but you're very knowledgeable about the workings of AR and so I'm hoping you can help me. Or if anyone else can...thanks in advance.
Krystal
Thank-you for the wonderfully clear, concise instructions. Many of the blogs that I have read included photos and I had been wondering how that was done. With a little practice I should be able to start blogging with the rest of you.
Thank you for the instructions! I've never done a blog, so I'm checking out any and all newbie instructions ~
Katrina
Kristal, you just answered a question that I have been searching for! Thank you. FYI, it was how to wrap the text around the picture.
Thanks,
Jon
I have tried to upload photos and I can't get the isert image box to open correctly. I even held down the CTRL key but I just get an empty box that opens.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Dave
Hi Kristal, thanks for the easy to follow instructions on how to add a picture to your post. I recently posted my first blog in the "Practice Here" group and Mike Mueller suggested that I add a photo. Nice idea, but I wasn't sure how--he directed me to your post. Thanks for all helpful hints!!
Kristal,
Thanks for the pointers. I have been using photos on my blogs, but wasn't using the Appearance tab. Now I will be able to place the picture anywhere. :)
Kathy
Boy this article has gotten some mileage! Thanks for writing it. I'm a bit new to blogging but not to the technology. This helped me. I'm a bit surprised I had so much trouble finding help for this within the AR faq's.
My grandparents lived in E. Wenatchee throughout my childhood. I love it there. My dad went to school in Leavenworth. Awesome place to live.
Thank you for this blog! This was my next question. It was great to find it already answered!
Howdy Kristal
Thank you for taking the time to be very helpful to all of us on Active Rain. This is something I have been thinking about asking how to do. Now I do not have ask.
Have a good one
Ok Kristal,
You have all the cool answers for this stuff, so let me ask this,How do you make the drop shadow and ripped edge with a drop shadow images? I could do this in photoshop but you must have an easer way. Will you share?
And thanks for all of the wonderful posts. I learn a lot reading your stuff.
Kristal,
Great tips and thanks for sharing! Nicely done! I will bookmark this page and use for future reference. Thanks!
Dave
Thank you. I was wondering hou to add a picture.
Tommy
Hi Krystal,
Great information and helpful tips. Thanks for sharing.
thank you Krystal. I have had lot trouble with pictures. Now I just discipline myself to follow what you have laid out here and I will be all set. Picture taking hasn't been my strong point for me but I am going to make an effort to be better at it.
Thanks, Kristal.
I will practice some more. Maybe my mistake was that I was trying to place the photos first and then work around them. So maybe it is a sequence problem for me. I will certainly give it at try!
Oh, now I get it. I wish I had read this first it would have saved me the stress of trying to make my picture fit. Thanks for helping.
Sharon
THis is a great explanation of how to do this. Thanks so much! I will check out the appearance tab, which I didn't ever look at before!
Thanks
Don
thanks so much!
Christine
Kristal,
All good info to use. I still do not understand the last part about vertical space_________ and horizontal space___________. What do you put in those spaces?
Kristal,
Your information is very valuable and useful to me as well as to a lot of AR users. I am a newbie to AR and gave up trying to add a photo to my first entry. Now I will be able to present much more appealing posts with all of the knowledge that I am picking up from you and my other peers. Thanks again for sharing the How-To's!!!!
Charlene
Howdy Kristal
I have not been adding photos to my blog posts. But I do feel it's time that I start adding them in. I know you are always writing about very helpful info for folks to read, and giving us insight to thing that we can use.
Have a good one
Dale
Thanks. You have been bookmarked. I was going out the other day to take some snappy pictures of anything I could find interesting and I dropped my camera. It was bound to happen. I just bought it.
Wow- This post has benefitted alot of folks! I kept ignoring the appearance tab-thanks.
Kathy
Thank you for sharing! I copied and pasted the instructions in an e-mail to myself so I can add your information to my blog folder.

Hi Kristal, thank you for the great information. I am trying to create on my personal real estate website (http://www.myownmyrtlebeach.com/) where my clients can come together and upload pictures of the area, their experiences, and community functions. My webmaster (z57) says I can not do that directly on my site because that would involve giving access to the public on the backend. Then they recommended creating a blog on Activerain and have it framed into my site. I have created a blog here called Share Your Myrtle Beach and put it on my website (http://myownmyrtlebeach.com/professional4.shtml) My question is this, I see that visitors that are not registered with Activerain can submit comments to my blog but cannot insert/upload their pictures, is it possible for non-registered members to upload their private pictures to our blogs? Thank you for all your wonderful assistance and knowledge!

Hi Kristal, thank you for the detailed explanation on how to add a photo to my blog. It was very helpful. I am still learning how to use all the features that Activerain has provided for us.
Thanks again.
I am sooooo glad I found this post ! I wondered why there wasn't a browse button on this site. Now I know it was me who couldn't find it!
Being blog illiterate, I have bookmarked this for future reference! I am trying to put my first photo in a blog right now. Thanks for the insight!
Hello Kristal K,
When I go to upload my Charlottesville Va homes for sale pics from the BROWSE drop box to the right does not work.
Has anyone else had this formidable problem? Thanks Toby
Hi Kristal,
I need help! Your tutorial seems very easy. O clicked on the tree and General dialog box popped up. So I clicked on the red tab but all I got was a little quirky sound and nothing else. The search box never appears. Any ideas?
Michelle ~ Do you have a lot of Windows open? I've had that happen when the window is actually open, but it is hidden below another window.
Hope that helps.
Toby ~ Not sure I've had that problem. I hope you are not trying to add photos that are too large for the web. Sometimes when you forget to reduce the size the computer just refuses to let you go forward. Kind of like a stubborn mule!
Thanks Kristal,
I like how you laid that out.
Active rain is the "AYSO youth Soccer" Everyone plays for many of us Bloggers. thanks to you we have a coach!
greatly appreciated. seeing your blog home page is like going to New York and looking up at the Empire State Building.
something seems wrong with my tree button is it rt or left click I cant get it to go to browse lately. popelynne
Will this take care of wrapping the text around the picture? I don't get it like that! What am I doing wrong?

Thanks Kristal I thin I get the drift.
It's funny that your picture only shows half of your face. Very ironic
Good inof I was wondering how to do this, lately i just have been cut and paste,
I tried and tried and tried and it doesn't work. It states it was the image url. I even put the photos I wanted on Photobucket and got the Url and still nothing. I find dragging the picture, gets it to the place I want it to be.
Thanks for this post. I am able to get to the part where I browse for the photo but when I click upload it just says ...sending request to AR.....and hangs there. Any suggestions on what the issue is? I have resized the phot to make it small but other than that don't know what I am doing wrong?????
Any help is appreciated
Great post, wish I would have found this month's ago...Now I'd love to know how to add the youtube or video's...anyone know?
thanks for the post Kristal.
You described everything very well...now off to adding some pictures.
Thanks, Kristal! I was wondering this as I posted my first blog. Thought I was going to have to use Photobucket or something. I appreciate you sharing!
Great info.
Krystal - THANK YOU , THANK YOU, THANK YOU! This was so helpful. As an AR newbie, adding pixs to my blogs is something I need to start doing.
Hi Krystal,
Thank you for the comprehensive instructions. I will keep these for those times when I am in a hurry and have a mental laps. You had also given me some techniques that were just a little easier than my way. Thanks. I always appreciate improvement.
Wow, thanks for making that so easy to understand. Sure will bookmark this site.
tj stroben
OOOOOOh, I keep missing the apperance tab...that's why my pics and text don't flow well...thanks!
Thanks Krystal, that was very informative - I love pictures/diagrams when figuring out the instructions -
Thanks - Now I finally know how to properly line up my photos...
Thanks for this helpful blog. Being new to blogging and active rain I can use all the helop I can get. This is invaluable information. I saw the url pop up and basically thought I can't take a picture from my folders.... now I know how.... Much appreciated, Sincerely, Diane
Thanks! I needed this!!
Kristal thanks a million. Without your instructions i would be @x#! my computer all night!!
Thanks for the pictures. Sharon Tara pointed me to your website but I still couldn't perform such a simple task. Because of your pictures I was able to figure out that my pop up blocker was preventing me from accessing my pictures. Thank you Kristal and Sharon.
Kristal, thank you, I have been planning my next blog and was wondering how to add pictures. Thanks for sharing your knowledge
Great explanation and one that I find will be very helpful. Thanks for the post.
Krystal, Krystal, Krystal....THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!
You absolutely proved the point "we don't see the forest 'cause the trees are in the way!" I've been trying and trying to figure out how to PLACE images within the text so they are wrapped, Googling for format instructions, trying the html tab so I could change an "align" command, but each time I try I only mess things up more. Now I know to simply go directly to the image upload screen and PATIENTLY restrain myself until AFTER I've determined where I want the image placed by clicking on the appearance tab.
LOL....I just noticed you wrote this post about 2 years ago!!! See, Krystal...you created a gift that just keeps on giving!!!!!
Thank muchly!
Krystal- I put a link to this Post in one of mine a while back....I had bookmarked this last year. It is timely every day. BTW don't you just love the new look of AR with all those dates above and no comments LOL :) Maybe you could get them to at least put a picture or 2 in those empty comment boxes LOL :)
thanks for the great explanation and pix!
I am trying to figure out how people get such cute graphics....and how they resize them...
Thank-you for this. It has been very helpful
Kristal,
Can you tell me what an "outside blog" is?
Thank you for the informative post. I will definitely be using your advise.
Krystal,
I am looking forward to sprucing my blogs with more photos. Thank you for providing us with websites where we can purchase photos for those occasions where we don't already have personal ones we can use.
Hi Krystal, Thank you for sharing this info as i'v not been able to add pics to my blogs, when I press browse button nothings happens? Its been rather frustrating, I willl keep being persistent and hope for the best.
thanks again
Happy New Year
Louise
Louise ` Are you holding down the "CTRL" key while clicking on "browse?" Try it that way it might help. Popup blockers sometimes prevent you from searching this way.
Another reason that might trick you up is if you have too many windows open. I've found that on occasion the window is actually opening but it is below other windows so you can 't SEE it!
Give it a try now! Hope that helps.
kk
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I couldn't figure out how to move those pictures around. Now I understand.
Gail ~ Glad to be of help. BTW I grew up in Monmouth County, Exit 100, Jersey Shore.
kk
Kristal- thank you for posting this... well explained and simple to follow. I appreciate it- have a great weekend!
Thank you so much for making this post! I tried adding a picture but didn't even think to click on the "tree" to select a picture from my local drive. I thought I could only use pictures hosted on the web! DOH!
I think I got it figured out. I can get my pictures on but there is dead space where the picture is. I am going to position with appearance. Maybe that will make up the difference. Thanks for the post. I bookmarked it.
Great info Kristal! Now for a Newbie to apply...............
I just sent this post to a new member who needed help with inserting pictures...this one surely comes in handy :)
Kristal I am going to have to come back and re-read this one. I have a whole lot of pictures that I want to put on AR. However they are too small and I just end up not using them at all. Hopefully I will start posting personal pictures after reading this blog. Great post.
Thank you for the step-by-step instructions, I will let you know how it goes. Have you ever given classes on this before? You appear to be a natural.
Kristal,
I still can't get the pictures where I want them. I align center and it stays to the right?????? Please help me. ;~(
Rich, Tell me step by step what you are doing. Are you importing from another program? If so, there is code in the formating that is causing the photos not to align right. You will need to find it and delete it. You can do that by looking at the HTML version in AR. If you do that be sure to SAVE you work before switching views, otherwise AR will delete your work.
Describe to me what you are doing and I might be able to help.
,kk
Hi Kristal,
Great tutorial and Blog! I have learned much from this blog. Now if I can just implement these instructions. I am trying to put interior pics down the left hand side of the homes I have posted. I will get there someday! grin :) The pics just always come out as large as my front picture of home. I guess I need to adjust the size of the pic, so they won't come out as large as the front picture of the home. I will keep working on this.
thanks again,
Ginger Moore
I am more than confused now... cannot even find the button... i have lots of pictures... are you not allwoed to add pictures till you upgrade and pay per month?
I am another fan. Thanks
THANKS so much, the 'url' thing threw me - this is like taking baby steps!
Susan Jacobsen, Engard Real Estate Company, HHI, SC
Kristal,
I have had very little luck getting pictures uploaded. I'm going to give your tips a try...let you know how that goes.
Wow! Thank you Kristal. I have finally learned how rt do pictures in my blog
Hi Kristal,
I cannot add pics to my blogs on active rain, when I click in the box to go to browse it makes a click noise and never opens. My pop up blocker is turned off. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Great post Kristal. Very helpful.
Kristal,
It's blog's like this that make my job a whole lot easier. I will pass this on to those members who need help. Thanks.
Awesome, helpful post. What a kind gesture.
Awesome, helpful post. What a kind gesture.
Kristal,
Thanks...I needed that!
You saved me a lot of time & probably added a few months to my life 'cuz if I tried to figure it out myself.....
All the best!

Krystal:
I only get the 1st box and the second box that asks for the photo from my pictures. I can never get any farther and I have not yet been able to upload my photos except my profile photo.
Do you think I have an MSN issue..shoudl I try it on internet explorer ?
I have Vista, do you think its that? I run Kapersky virus protection, That maybe?
Krystal:
I always get box 1 and 2, but the 3rd box never appears after I hit upload. I am on Windows Vista and MSN. What do you use?
Katherine Fillman
Re/Max Real Estate Ltd.
Katherine,
I browse with either Mozilla Firefox or of late Google's Chrome.
Your issue might be because of pop up blockers. If so try holding down the "Ctrl" key when you wait for the windows to pop up. If that doesn't help, I'm not sure what to tell you.
Give it a try and let me know.
kk
Great post, you really made it easy to upload pictures. I do have another question, can you lock your pictures on AR so they can't be copied? If so would you mind sharing? Thanks and I just can't explain how much I love the AR community.
Hi Nikki,
Thank you, I'm glad you found the information helpful!
As per your question about "locking" photos so they can't be copied. No, you can't. There are software programs you can subscribe to that will put a type of "tracing code" on a layer of your photo. When someone steals it, the code is traced and you can go sue the thief.
LOL, considering how many people think nothing of poaching photos, you could make a nice fortune pursueing them, assuming they have money to pay you. Of course you will need a slick attorney who will go after them, of course unless you are one, that also costs a few dollars.
Ownership of photos belongs to you but to protect them via statutes you need to register your copyright. Otherwise you have to "prove" they are yours.
All this is a lot of work, most people aren't willing to pursue theives, so theives persist.
The easiest solution is to put a big old watermark on the pic to deter anyone from taking them. Then it ruins your art!
I see many of my old photos on my competitors websites. What I did is go learn how to take better photos, now their (stolen) photos look crappy!
How's that for a good plan?
kk
Krystal: This blog is and has been helpful to me. Very well done.
Great Post, thanks for the information.
Hi Kristal, Every time I see a post from you I know it will be amazing in detail and loaded with helpful instructions. You Rock !
Awesome help, thank you! I was always envious of those who had pics in their blogs, but was too embarassed to ask how it was done. You have provided a valuable service and saved me from much embarassment. Thank you!
Great job Krystal!
Thanks, Kristal! Valuable information for a Newbie!
KK - an oldie but a goodie. I thought I remembered this from before. It really is pretty easy to add photos, especially if folks just follow your tutorial (exxcept when we are having proxy errors - they have been occuring again, along with a bad gateway here and there, although with far less frequency).
Jeff
This post was fabulous, I should have known to look at YOUR blogs to find out how to do this! THX Kristal!
Yikes, I am following your instructins closely, but I cannot get past the first step. I think there is a pop up blocker keeping the second screen from showing, so I am not getting the browse screen to add the picture. I tried adding Active Rain to my safe list, but since they are a http:// instead of a https:// Microsoft will not allow me to add it. I have a newer computer with windows 7. Any suggestions?
Colleen, Try holding your "CTRL" key down, that should block the popup blockers!
kk
Hi Kristal, thanks for the post! I picked up on several common mistakes I have been making with regularity.
Kristal ~ I've uploaded pictures before, but couldn't figure out how to format them until I read your directions. Thanks for this (not so recent) post! I found it with a Google search :)
Matt & Karen, You are welcome! This post keeps getting comments, I wonder how people actually find it! Glad to be of help,
kk
Kristal, I get all the way to the UPLOAD box and then it stalls and then I get error message saying Bad Server. I've tried using both Internet Explorer and Mozilla and neither work. Can you advise?

cool and useful post, I learned to do it by myself a few months ago made several mistakes hope the info helps others.
I'm still having problems uploading photos. I discovered the attributes tag this morning, but it was great getting an explaination.
I get
Bad Gateway
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.
Apache/2.2.3 (Red Hat) mod_ssl/2.2.3 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 Server at activerain.com Port 80
Kathy, The error message you are receiving is from AR's server. It's nothing you are doing wrong. Try it a few times more, perhaps it will go away.
Good luck!

How do I get my profile picture in my blog comments?
Jim, Your profile image will appear when you have written a certain amount of comments and/or blogs. I'm not sure what the number is, so keep writing!
